26 Jul 2016 - Sarah Cracknell - Kites

Sarah Cracknell - Kites
Available to pre-order now.

Today sees the pre-order release for a very special - limited edition - 10" album by Sarah Cracknell. Entitled 'Kites', it features 9 reworked recordings from last year's acclaimed 'Red Kite' solo record. Though mostly instrumental, 'Kites' features new vocal performances from Sarah on 'Rag Doll' and 'I Close My Eyes' as well as additional instrumentation and gospel singers. It has been described by Sarah as "the soundtrack to a film that's yet to be made" and was inspired by her love of classic film scores.

Listen to a few selected extracts here...

The perfect companion to 'Red Kite', 'Kites' will be strictly limited to just 650 copies worldwide - a 10" vinyl album with free download code. The record itself comes housed in a beautiful, retro style flip-back sleeve with a mosaic design borrowed from the original 'Red Kite' sleeve.

Pre-ordering is possible now direct from the Cherry Red online store here
Finished copies are expected to ship in September.

Those who pre-order will receive a special 7" artprint of the album sleeve signed by Sarah
The digital download code includes all 9 recordings from the album plus a brand new full vocal version of 'Rag Doll' featuring a gospel choir - all 10 tracks are unavailable elsewhere.

Finally, a few words from Sarah on how the album came about....

"For my second solo album, Red Kite, I decided that I wanted to make something more pastoral and cinematic. I'd met my producer and co-writer Carwyn Ellis a couple of years earlier and we'd often discuss the idea of working together. Carwyn would send instrumental tracks over and we'd get together writing songs at my kitchen table. Slowly a picture started to take shape.

Ennio Morricone, baroque pop and the string arrangements of Robert Kirby were among our touchstones during the creative process. We set up a makeshift studio with star engineer Seb Lewsley in a disused barn near my home as Red Kites - huge birds of prey - circled above.

The album unfolded easily and naturally and I fell in love with the instrumental versions of the songs we were recording. Following the release of the record, I found myself playing the backing tracks and hatching ideas of remixing them and adding parts to make them more complete as standalone pieces. We went back into the studio and added some new instrumentation, extra backing vocals from me and a gospel choir. I'm really pleased with the way it sounds and hope you, the listener, approve. Less of me but just the right amount of everything. It's Lagom, as the people of Sweden might say.

Like the soundtrack to a film that's yet to be made, I'm pleased to present Kites".
