TORMENT AND TOREROS - LIVE
??
Marc Almond is proud to announce a special one off performance of the Marc And The Mambas classic album Torment And Toreros at London's Festival Hall on 9 August 2012. Marc has been specially invited by Antony Hegarty to perform the album as one of the main events at his Meltdown Festival at the London Southbank. Antony is the curator of the 2012 Meltdown Festival and he has always cited Torment and Toreros as one of his favourite and most inspiring records. Marc will be presenting the album in its entirety, including some of the extra tracks, with an ensemble of musicians that will include one or two of the original musicians that featured on the album and also Antony himself.
??
Marc Almond has wanted to perform the whole album for some time but hadn't found the right context. It is Marc's hope to perform the album as near as possible to the original, summoning up the emotions, feelings and spirit which it was recorded in. Marc is thrilled and honoured to be performing it for Antony at this most special event.

The official press release reads:??Marc Almond, another artist who shot to fame in the 1980s, presents a rare live performance of Marc And The Mambas groundbreaking 1983 release Torment And Toreros (9 August). Antony has said of Almond, "Marc laid out a trail of subcultural breadcrumbs and aesthetic tenets that more than any other single influence formed the artist that I would become. Ten years before I would hear Nina Simone make a similar affirmation, I read Marc saying that he didn't care if he hit the notes, for it was only the feeling that mattered."
??
Also, critically, it was on Marc And The Mambas first album that Antony first heard a cover of Lou Reed's masterpiece Caroline Says, which 20 years later Antony would personally accompany Reed himself in reprising.
