25 Sep 2011 - Some More Erasure News

'WHEN I START TO (BREAK IT ALL DOWN)' 5-TRACK CD SINGLE - INTERNATIONAL AVAILABILITY
It's been fantastic to get so much great feedback about the fact that the 'When I Start To (Break It All Down)' single is going to be available as a 5-track CD in addition to the usual download format, however it seems that the diminishing market for CD singles around the world means that the CD single will only be available locally in the UK and France. So if you want the CD version of 'When I Start To (Break It All Down)' (which, like the album, looks absolutely brilliant!) I suggest you order from
Amazon UK who currently have it on pre-order for a bargain price of just £3.54. If you order now your CD will be on its way to you before you know it!

'TOMORROW'S WORLD' ALBUM - US RELEASE DATE CHANGE
Just to let you know that due to circumstances beyond our control the release date for the 'Tomorrow's World' album in the USA has slipped a week from October 4th to October 11th. The album is currently available to
pre-order at Amazon and iTunes in the USA, and if you pre-ordered it with concert tickets then your album will now arrive on or around October 11th.

REHEARSAL VIDEO FOR 'WHEN I START TO (BREAK IT ALL DOWN)'
Last week the influential website Digital Spy was exclusively streaming some footage - filmed in London before the South American Total Pop! dates - of Erasure rehearsing 'When I Start To (Break It All Down)' for the 'Tomorrow's World' tour dates. The footage is now available to view on the Erasure
YouTube channel, and in the news section on the Erasure website.

ANIMATED VIDEO FOR 'WHEN I START TO (BREAK IT ALL DOWN)'
STEVE SMART & WESTFUNK REMIX'

Mute have made a fantastic animated video for the Steve Smart & WestFunk Remix of 'When I Start To (Break It All Down)' which you can see on the Erasure
YouTube channel, or in the news section on the Erasure website!

NINE QUESTIONS??? WITH UK NATIONAL TV AND RADIO PLUGGER CAROLINE POULTON
You may remember a few newsletters ago that I announced a new series of 'Nine Questions' mini-features setting out to find out what happens behind the scenes when Erasure release a new record? The idea is to ask nine questions of different members of the Erasure team to get a feel for what they do for the band and how they go about it... the first feature - with UK national TV and radio plugger Caroline Poulton - is
online now in the news section of the Erasure website and I hope to bring you the chance to ask another member of the team your burning questions very soon!

Victoria and Albert Museum
London

The House Of Annie Lennox

15th Sept2011 - 26th Feb 2012

Victoria & Albert Museum, London

Cost: Free

We are delighted to announce the launch of an exciting new display at the Victoria and Albert museum, London: 'The House of Annie Lennox'

This display in the V&A's Theatre and Performance Galleries will explore the creativity, image and style of Annie Lennox, one of the world's most renowned female performers.

Conceived and created in collaboration with Annie Lennox, this display will bring together over 50 objects, costumes and music videos from her personal archive to explore and reveal elements of the inspiration behind her artistry.

The installation is designed around the concept of a 'House', providing a visual journey through different facets of Annie Lennox's creativity. Objects on show include accessories and costumes, such as the Union Jack suit worn at the 1999 Brit Awards, and the sequinned evening dress worn in the Little Bird music video. There will be handwritten lyrics, music manuscripts, personal treasures and a selection of awards ranging from the GRAMMYs to an Oscar. Ephemera from the political causes Annie Lennox has championed such as the SING campaign for HIV/AIDS awareness will also be on display.

The House of Annie Lennox will host immersive video projections choreographed by Annie Lennox??herself, as well as music videos of her solo work and those created and performed with Dave Stewart as Eurythmics. A selection of interviews recorded throughout her career, and an original V&A film of Annie Lennox in conversation, will examine her sources of inspiration and her thoughts on songwriting and the creative process. A collection of over a dozen, well known images of Annie Lennox by acclaimed photographers including Paolo Roversi, Pamela Hanson and Satoshi Saikusa will also be displayed, illustrating something of the breadth of Annie Lennox's changing visual representation across the four decades of her career.

Adele’s 21 has long looked destined to join the exclusive club of albums selling 3 million copies in the UK, but the speed at which it has got there is nothing short of astonishing.
??
Less than 33 weeks after XL released the singer’s second album on January 24, 21 has hit a sales landmark appropriately only previously reached by 21 other albums in the UK. But none of these other recordings managed to sell as many copies anywhere near as quickly as Adele has.
It was as recently as the latter part of April that Music Week was celebrating the Adele album’s two-millionth domestic sale as it equalled a 21st-century record set by Dido’s Life For Rent by taking 12 weeks to reach that milestone.
??
Twenty weeks later Adele is already at the next million level and must now be heavily fancied to eventually make it to 4 million sales – a feat just seven albums have accomplished in history in the UK.
All the elements are certainly in place for 21 to join that select group: they are Queen’s Greatest Hits, The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Abba’s Gold Greatest Hits, Dire Straits’ Brothers In Arms, Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon and Oasis’s (What’s the Story) Morning Glory.
??
In addition to 21 reaching 3 million sales in record time, it remains a Top 10 fixture on the weekly Official Charts Company chart. This means it still has plenty of life left in it to sell many more copies and get its cumulative total much, much higher than presently.
??

?? ??

Adele’s manager Jonathan Dickins says the phenomenal sales are only part of the story. “Then you add onto that the sheer number of track sales,” he notes. “We’ve done 300,000 of Set Fire To The Rain. We’ve done virtually 1.1 million tracks on Someone Like You, 700,000 on Rolling In The Deep. It’s amazing. Track sales and album sales a lot of the time don’t correlate with each other, but to have extraordinary track sales figures and to have phenomenal album figures is definitely an incredible achievement.”
??
Until 21, the fastest album to make it to 3 million sales was achieved by Oasis’s (What’s The Story) Morning Glory, which sold its three-millionth copy one year, seven months and three weeks after being released by Creation.
