Everything But The Girl
have released their brand-new single 'Run A Red Light'. It's the third upfront track to be taken from their new album 'Fuse', due out next month, and arrives with an accompanying video, directed by Charlie Di Placido, who made the recent 'Nothing Left To Lose' video (watched over 1 million times on YouTube). There is also a new photo (above) by Edward Bishop.

"I met a lot of characters during my years in clubland," says Ben of 'Run A Red Light', "and I wrote this song about the guy at the end of the night, who dreams his big moment is just around the corner. All the bravado and good intentions masking the vulnerability".

"The video is like a dream of the story," says Tracey. "We've found with this record that choreography can express the emotion in our music without having to be too literal. The characters, the clothes, the movement, the direction all just fit. Charlie and his team really get the feelings we're going for".

Of the music, Ben says,"I used mixed technology in the production to lend character. The piano is a looped iPhone recording; the synth that follows the vocal is a live take on an analog EMS VCS3 which were first made in 1969. Tracey chose to sing super-close to the mic to add intimacy. Some vocals are untreated, some auto-tuned. And then at the end we let the music appear to evaporate. It all just seemed to suit the story".

10 Mar 2023 - Michaela May - Monster

Back with her 2nd single off her upcoming EP, “Monster” provides a more introspective look into anger, betrayal and infidelity.

Michaela May’s last single, "Crying At The Radio", was very well received in the Synthwave and Retrowave scenes. Now Michaela is back with “Monster”, where we hear her more energetic and fiery than ever before.

Monster” recalls a vulnerable moment where a significant other has betrayed your trust one too many times. The song dives into complex emotions as we journey  through Michaela’s innermost thoughts.

Michaela describes, “We often hear songs lamenting over past relationships. With Monster, I wanted to write a song that really chronicles the stages of grief and anger that you go through. Dive a little deeper into the myriad of feelings that happen when you have been blindsided or betrayed.”

Sonically, Monster maintains Michaela’s synth-pop signature shimmer combined with a bit more darkness, while managing to feel retro and contemporary at the same time.

Michaela’s upcoming EP is on deck for early summer 2023. If Monster and Crying At The Radio are anything to go by, listeners and fans should be ready for a powerful, brazen and anthemic EP.

After spending more than a decade as frontman for a Scottish Alternative Rock band, Arcade Memories (aka Aaron Murray) turned to producing Synthwave due to the worldwide pandemic putting a stop to meeting up with band members. After two years of honing the skills of his newfound musical passion he reached out to Aztec Records who took him under their wing and invited him to join their roster.

Used To Be’ is a song about a relationship that has over time gone downhill and feelings have changed. Now all that can be done is to wish for those good times to come back again.

Working with fellow label artist Syntronix (Fabian Vanderlinden) who provided mixing, mastering and additional structure services the song really shines bright as the second single from Arcade Memories.

03 Mar 2023 - Coastal - Forever

Coastal return with 'Forever', the second single from the upcoming 2023 release 'Heartbeats'.

Coastal - the Leeds UK based duo consisting of Jonathan Fletcher and Aaron Hetherington - made an instant impression in the Synth and Retrowave scene with their debut release 'Memories' which included the fan favourite - the nostalgic 'Kyoto' and the electric, driving anthem 'Midnight Sky'.

'Forever' brings us on to a new journey into the very present. Launching in LoFi - the mood of listening to your stereo on the golden beaches, 'Forever' kicks into action bringing those heatwave vibes and the positivity those moments bring to our lives. The dynamic vocals of Aaron Hetherington tell the story of a summertime love which we hope can go on and on and never end.

With driving rhythm and bass, gorgeous synths and 80s soaked guitar solos, 'Forever' truly is the summer staple of the year.
