Morrissey's debut album 'Viva Hate' was originally released in March 1988 just six months after the release of the final Smiths' album. 'Strangeways, Here We Come'. Keeping the core jangling guitar sound of his previous band, Morrissey's first record provided the ultimate platform for his by-then legendary lyrical abilities, resulting in a set of what would become classic Morrissey tracks: 'Suedehead', 'Everyday Is Like Sunday', 'Little Man, What Now?' and the 'Margaret on a Guillotine' to name a few.

'Viva Hate' has now been remastered for the first time (supervised by the original producer Steven Street) and comes with brand new artwork, an introduction by Chrissie Hynde and now includes the rare track 'Treat Me Like A Human Being'. The 'Viva Hate' Special Edition is available on CD in a gatefold digipak, a heavyweight gatefold double LP and download.

Order the Morrissey 'Viva Hate: Special Edition' at Recordstore.co.uk and you could win a presentation frame of the original vinyl test pressing (one of only two ever made) together with the very first artwork run-offs from the factory. The lucky winner will also have the frame personally engraved!

Do you remember that special alchemy that transforms even the most mundane of experiences - walking home with the headphones on at night, sitting in a bedroom with your friends in the day, getting ready to go out on the weekend - into a lingering moment of seamless enchantment, one that resonates for the rest of your life?

Our new album, Words and Music by Saint Etienne, is about that.

About how music affects your life.
How it defines the way you see the world as a child.
How it can get you through bad times in unexpected ways.
How songs you've known all your life can suddenly develop a new attachment and hurt every time you hear them.

More than how it affects and reflects your life though, the album is about believing in music, living your life by its rules.

The album will be released on 21st May on CD, 2CD Deluxe Edition, LP and a special boxset version.

??
The tracklist is:

01. Over the Border
02. I've Got Your Music
03. Heading For the Fair
04. Last Days of Disco
05. Tonight
06. Answer Song
07. Record Doctor
08. Popular
09. 25 Years
10. DJ
11. When I Was Seventeen
12. I Threw it All Away
13. Haunted Jukebox

Tonight
??
Like the album it’s taken from, first single “Tonight” is all about the primal and atavistic pull that all good pop music exerts, about how the unadulterated thrill of a great band or gig can sometimes feel like a hotline straight to your heart.

In Bob Stanley’s own words, “’Tonight’ is about the anticipation of going to see your favourite group. For some reason, I imagine this show is at the Forum in Kentish Town. The whole album is about the power of pop, how it affects and shapes your life”.

Produced by Xenomania lynchpin Tim Powell (Girls Aloud, Kylie, Sugababes) and mixed by Richard X, this 7" is limited to 1,000 copies worldwide and comes with an exclusive b-side. Click artwork below to pre-order!

21 Feb 2012 - East 17 Return

??

Boy band East 17 are back – and they’ve been taking notes from Kings Of Leon.

The current line-up, which includes original members Tony Mortimer, John Hendy and Terry Caldwell – but not Brian Harvey – will release album Dark Light on April 2.

According to the band’s press release, the LP “showcases the band’s new transatlantic rock sound, reminiscent of bands like Kings Of Leon and U2 and even artists like Brian Adams and Billy Joel”.

It adds: “It’s a brave move and one that’s paid off on a record that’s as catchy as Summer of ’69 and as soft rock and big sounding as it gets.”

Songwriter Mortimer said: “I think everyone is subconsciously inspired by American music and rock ‘n’ roll and this time around we wanted to do something more live with less tricks.”

Dark Light has been produced by Bob Rose and Tony Mortimer. The band’s first LP since 1999, it will be released on April 2 on FOD, distributed by Nova via Universal.

Track-listing:
I Can’t Get You Off My Mind (Crazy), Crazy Fool, Nightlife, Counting Clouds, Break Ur Heart, Friday Night, Kiss Of Winter, Broken Valentine, Where Does Love Go, You Must Be An Angel.
