MICHAEL JACKSON's 'Thriller' was voted the second greatest UK number one album of all time in the recent poll to mark the 50th anniversary of the UK albums chart. Jackson lost out to The Beatle's 'Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band' which took the top position in a chart that saw twenty-four 80s albums in the top 100 including releases from U2 (with six albums listed!), DIRE STRAITS, REM, KATE BUSH, MADONNA, KYLIE, THE HUMAN LEAGUE and FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD. CHINA CRISIS
have announced a UK show in Southport in October, as well as a gig from spin-off band MUDDYHEAD in Manchester in September. See

SIMPLY RED
will release a new single 'Oh! What A Girl' on September 22nd which will precede their new studio album which is due for release in early 2007.

THE POGUES have announced a short UK tour at Christmas which will culminate with two shows at London's Brixton Academy on December 17th and 18th. See GIGS for all the dates.

NEW ORDER
's legendary Manchester club The Hacienda is the subject of a double-CD compilation 'Discotheque, Vol. 1: The Hacienda' charting some of the songs that made the club great. You can read a review of the release in the

DEPECHE MODE
will continue their series of remastered and repackaged albums in October with the release of three more CD/SACD titles, 'A Broken Frame', 'Some Great Reward' and 'Songs Of Faith And Devotion'. Each release will feature a remastered audio CD plus a SACD with high-resolution audio mixes, bonus tracks and documentary footage of the band talking about the album. See

KYLIE MINOGUE
has added yet more dates to her upcoming UK tour and will now play four Manchester shows at Manchester's MEN Arena with the addition of dates on the 18th and 19th of January. See

XTC
have announced that they are to release a nine-disc boxset of outtakes and rarities from frontman ANDY PARTRIDGE's personal archive. The set - entitled 'The Fuzzy Warbles Collectors Album' - is due on October 16th.

will play two rare Australian shows at Melbourne's Crown Casino in October. See
